MONFORTE DEL CID (Orito)
Monforte town has a typical Moorish appearance with a labyrinth of concentric streets around an ancient Mosque that today is a Parish Church. The main economic activity of the village is agriculture and the bagged grapes. The local town hall contains 2 Iberian sculptures. There is plenty to see and all services/amenities are available in this main town.
Orito is a small village which is located only 4kms from Monforte and only a 15kms drive from Alicante on the motorway in the direction of Madrid. You will find blue flag sandy beaches, marina promenade and an abundance of shops in Alicante as well as, of course, the airport. Orito village is famous for a religious pilgrimage celebrated on 17 May in honour of San Pascual Bailon. The area has a convent in the square and the San Pascual Cave (which during the time of the Saint’s life as a shepherd was a shelter during harsh weather). Both are attractions for pilgrims with a statute of the Saint erected in 1996. Access to the cave is on foot but can be reached by car. Once there admire the astonishing landscape. Other attractions include mineral baths (where San Pascual did many of his miraculous cures) but these have fallen into disrepair and the town hall are taking steps to restore them. The village is a very restful place and has lodging facilities to enable you to explore the local attractions which also include a youth hostel, the Pilgrim’s house and where you can partake in such things as trekking and walking. Certainly worth a visit.
This totally fenced plot of land is 10.000 sq mtrs has erected on it a 100 sq mt pre-fabricated chalet style property which comprises 3 beds, 1 bath, kitchen, living/dining room with fireplace and storage. There is deposit and irrigation water. Electricity is from a wind generator and stored in large batteries in an outside building. The chalet was erected for living purposes until the main house (which had plans approved in September 2006) was erected close by – the foundations have been laid but the owners have decided to return to Britain before the work is completed. The plans are for a 193 sq mtr build including 5 beds and 5 baths. Electricity is 50 mtrs away and drinking water 200 mts and the views are breathtaking.
