Estepona is about 30km west of Marbella and is a coastal town that retains much of the traditional Spanish charm. Estepona has wonderful long sandy beaches and a recently constructed wide promenade with flowers, palm trees and pretty seating areas. Away from the seafront of Estepona, the old town is very picturesque, with cobbled alleyways crammed full of plants and two delightful plazas with plenty of traditional tapas bars and boutique shops.
The fish market is definitely worth seeing. Estepona has the largest fishing fleet west of Málaga and the daily dawn ritual in the port, where the returning fleets auction off the fish they've just caught, is definitely worth getting up early for.
The Sunday Market in Estepona at the Puerto Deportivo is a great place for buying all sorts of gifts, leather work, watches, costume jewellery and arts and crafts - and if you like to haggle over price this is definitely the place to come! |
