Mollina, typical Spanish pueblo covering an approximate area of 75km2 with 3,500 inhabitants known as Mollinatos, located some 450m above sea level.
The origins of Mollina or where its’ name derives from are not known, however, there are various versions one of which suggests that it may originate from the Mill Tower (Torre Molina) and another theory is that it originates from the Latin word for Bland which is Mollis.
Archeological studies seem to suggest that settlements existed as far back as Neolithic times (due to its proximity to Alameda it stands to reason!)
The current town dates back to the 1500’s with olive plantations being one of the main contributors to the local economy as well as wine, Mollina contributes with 80% of the wine produced in the province of Malaga.
Olives were of such importance in the making of Mollina that the Parish Church saw its name changed from San Cayetano to Our Lady of the Olives!
Once again, great access to the superb motorway network, great charm and character makes Mollina a highly desirable town to live in.
